Oh My Eyes is a new luxury eyewear brand from Stockholm, Sweden, inspired by Scandinavian modernism, especially architecture and furniture design.

Join us at Alma Trägårdh, 13th of June when Oh My Eyes are our guests, showing their new collection and giving all members a 15% discount (Please present your alma card when purchasing).

The sunglasses are handmade in Sabae, Japan, which is where Japanese eyewear production started more than 100 years ago. Craftsmen from Sabae were the first to produce frames in light yet robust titanium, which is nickel-free and corrosion resistant.

The first collection consists of six unisex models in two colour combinations each. They are made using the best available Japanese titanium and Italian cellulose acetate, based on cotton and wood.

For each collection a new designer will interpret Oh My Eyes. By doing so the brand aims to push the boundaries for eyewear design both technically and aesthetically.

For the first collection Oh My Eyes has commissioned renowned Italian eyewear designer Marco Galleani who has worked in the eyewear industry since the 1980s for brands such as YSL, Gucci, Prada, Miu Miu and Roberto Cavalli among many others. He has created a new technically challenging concept, called The Clip, as a recurring theme throughout the Oh My Eyes collection.

Ikebana vs Freakebana

Join flower designer, Mirja Bozarth Fornell (@bozart) for an afternoon of creative flower styling techniques…and wine!
Ikebana is the Japanese art of arranging flowers. The practice evolved with Buddhist philosophy and is rooted in minimalism and precision. The centuries old discipline features sparse, off-center compositions of local an seasonal foliage —positioned to emphasize form, line, and color. Plants are carefully chosen for their symbolism to the creator or space.
Freakebana, the TURNT cousin of Ikebana, is the new ugly-cool style of arranging flowers. Freakebana is the art of arranging “whatever-the-hell,” in a way that nods at the traditional Ikebana but subs out years of study for a naive, new-wave naturalism.
Limited Seating
Guests will be given one Kenzan each to bring your flower arrangements home. Don’t know what a Kenzan is —get a ticket and find out.

HON Breakfast

Welcome to a roundtable women breakfast discussion lead by HON.

We know many of our members have great ideas that can change the world. Unfortunately, stats indicates that only 1% of all startups get proper business funding in the long run. Raising capital from investors is both time consuming and difficult, especially for first time entrepreneurs. Therefore, a compelling pitch, that is persuasive enough to get in to the VCs head and make them want to invest is crucial. There is sadly no universal pitching template that guarantees an investment. However, all good pitches share some common elements and characteristics.

During this HON members breakfast, Kajsa Gatenbeck will share her thoughts and lessons of a good pitch, what needs to be included and what you should know before stepping into that meeting. Our aim is that these learnings will help you create that pitch investors can’t turn down!

Book Release “Till Dikten” by Malte Persson

Mycket talar emot dikten.

Book Launch! Den vilda jakten på ett bättre jag

Twelve months, twelve aspects of life to be optimized. Carl Cederström and André Spicer went all in and wrote a book about it.

Welcome to a launch party on January 16th as publishing house Nature & Kultur hosts a presentation of the book, moderated by Lawen Mohtadi, Senior Editor at Natur & Kultur.

Better looking, smarter, more productive, a better lover and healthier. There is no part of life that cannot be optimized.

For a year, researchers Carl Cederström and André Spicer aimed to methodically improve different parts of their lives. In January they increased their productivity, in June they maximized their sexual pleasure and in September they tried to become millionaires. Soon, the experiment turned into a way of life, devoting large amounts of time and money in the pursuit to become optimal versions of themselves.

Den vilda jakten på ett bättre jag is an entertaining and revealing book about self-help and what it does to us. By the end of the year, the authors are compelled to ask: what was the point of all this?

Carl Cederström is an Associate Professor in business administration at Stockholm University and author or editor of five books. He has written for The New York Times, The Guardian, The Atlantic and Svenska Dagbladet. André Spicer is a professor at Cass Business School, London, and author and editor of seven books. He has written for The Guardian, the Financial Times, The Times, and CNN. Spicer lives in London. Together they have previously written The Wellness Syndrome.

The book is also published in English with the title Desperately Seeking Self-Improvement: A Year Inside the Optimization Movement. Read a review in The Guardian

LAST Pop-Up Shop

Alma Shop proudly presents LAST first pop-up outside of the studio. Beautiful handcrafted objects by Asa Jungnelius, Gustaf Nordenskiöld and Fredrik Paulsen. Opening reception 6 December, 17-20, Welcome!

(Swedish: freight, burden, vice)

As long as there is water* to drink, there will be cups to drink from. But the variation in form these cups can take is virtually limitless. In today’s globalized world, how can we produce products of flesh and blood? Products made with care, that are built to be used for a long time? Can artists and designers circumvent the corporate hierarchy of mass production and instead manufacture objects themselves?

The LAST line is comprised of customized, one-of-a-kind pieces that collectively suggest integrity and the ability to last a long time.

Not only are the products sustainable, but they work together to promote design that is slower, more personal, and more thoughtful. A LAST that will last.

The concept behind LAST is simple: purchase an object directly from its maker. No intermediaries, long journeys, questionable materials or sweatshop labour. All of the products in the LAST collection are handmade by the artist in his or her studio.

LAST is a pop-up experience, a shop that can appear anywhere, be it an interior design shop, a gallery, online, or outdoors. It’s a traveling design experience: while the shop’s essential structure remains the same no matter where it pops up, each iteration includes a unique design element to give it a distinct identity.

Joe Macleod on Ends

As consumers and providers we overlook the importance of healthy, coherent endings. There was once a rich culture of reflection and responsibility, but over recent centuries this has been lost. Producing a mixture of long term societal oversight, and short term denial.

Now, in a world awash with start-ups and new tech, I want to tell you why its critical we start considering endings.

Joe Macleod, author of the Ends, shares with us a history of our changing relationship with endings. He makes a compelling case that demonstrates how, over centuries, our changing relationship with death, spread of the Protestant religion, and a tethering of our identities to our consumption has distanced our relationship with endings.
